Job Overview
The Quality Manager oversees Sales Engineering and Compliance, ensuring product validation, certification, and adherence to national codes and standards. This role manages daily compliance inquiries from PLM and sales, while leading efforts in BIFMA and UL certifications, including burn testing and electrical requirements. The manager will also direct the Test Lab team who are responsible for audit testing, new product evaluations, and ongoing business maintenance. Additionally, they collaborate with the legal team to address compliance issues and mitigate potential risks related to product liability.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, including product management, manufacturing, sales, and marketing, to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies and initiatives aligned with overall business objectives.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within engineering processes, implementing changes to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead a culture of inclusion and belonging, promoting member engagement, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
- Lead, manage, and motivate a team of engineering professionals, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
- Manage departmental budgets, allocate resources effectively, and track expenses to ensure financial responsibility.

- Oversee the execution of complex engineering projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar field of study
- Education Equivalency: Associate's Degree plus 2 additioanl years of Quality or Engineering experience OR 4 years additional Quality or Engineering experience if no post-secondary education
- 5 years Quality or Engineering experience
- 2 years supervisory experience

- Applicants must be able to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of BIFMA standards, Greenguard certification, and UL testing requirements (including burn testing and electrical compliance)
- Proven experience managing a testing facility or laboratory team, including audit testing, new product validation, and ongoing compliance testing
- Familiarity quality management systems to ensure regulatory and environmental compliance
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain compliance statements and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- Experience collaborating with legal teams on compliance and liability issues, including risk mitigation strategies
- Strong understanding of national and international codes and compliance requirements across product categories
- Excellent leadership skills with a track record of managing cross-functional teams and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with sales engineering, PLM, and external certification bodies
- Ability to analyze quality data, identify trends, and implement corrective/preventive actions to improve processes
- Knowledge of office furniture industry standards and regulatory requirements for product safety and performance
- Proficiency in quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis methodologies
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple compliance initiatives simultaneously
