Job Overview

 

We are currently looking for a Senior Commodity Manager to join our team in Holland, MI.

 

As a Senior Commodity Manager you will:

 

Develop a supply chain sourcing strategy and manage supplier alliances for one major commodity. This includes supplier evaluation and selection, contract negotiation, and ongoing supplier performance and relationship management.  You will also lead cross-functional supply chain cost reduction projects for assigned major commodity, and serve as a subject matter expert for all commercial negotiations associated with commodity of responsibility.

 

Some of the responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

 

  • Develops commodity supply strategy, based on market trends, benchmark data, and feedback from Supply Chain Specialists, Planners, Operations, Product Engineering, and suppliers to develop and manage supplier alliances. Publishes strategy and presents to global key stakeholders for alignment on periodic basis (minimum of every six months).
  • Develops and manages supplier alliances, working together with Supply Chain Specialists, Planners, Operations, Product Engineering, Quality, and others as needed to leverage supplier resources and technology to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Leads cross-functional cost reduction projects for major commodities to ensure all cost, quality, and other project objectives are achieved.
  • Leads team of Commodity Specialist(s) to provide mentoring and team development.  Coaches and assesses member performance to conduct performance review process; administers Haworth policies and procedures, including discipline, as required.
  • Sources and procures material, equipment, and services worldwide to support Haworth’s requirements for quality, delivery, innovation, and cost.  Collaborates with Logistics and other areas as required to deal with foreign currencies and customs.
  • Develops supply agreements with major supplier partners, ensuring terms of agreement include cost model pricing, raw material indexing, price change process, and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) cost reduction goals.
  • Negotiates major commodity contract terms and conditions to drive commodity spend under contract to be greater than 65 percent.
  • Coordinates design reviews, communicates Haworth quality and delivery requirements, and initiates and investigates cost of performance opportunities to ensure full optimization.
  • Develops selection criteria and evaluates suppliers, including site visits to suppliers and potential suppliers, to ensure Supply Chain Performance, including supplier quality, delivery, and cost.  Initiates corrective action when required and works with suppliers on ongoing basis to fully develop “Supply Chain Management” metrics, processes, and procedures.
  • Owns and sets standard cost for parts purchased.  Owns and provides monthly Purchase Price Variance (PPV) forecast to business for commodities of responsibility, providing accurate financial forecasting.
  • Utilizes cost analysis, target costing, and other techniques to manage pricing by exercising most effective use of company funds in acquisition of assigned commodities and equipment in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).  Understands and manages total supply chain cost.
  • Facilitates supplier involvement in new product programs and VAVE cost reduction activities to manage pricing by fully understanding and managing total supply chain cost; leads cross-functional cost reduction projects for major commodities.
     

Do you have these required qualifications?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, or similar.
  • Eight years Supply Chain purchasing experience.
  • Four years specific commodity management experience.
  • Two years leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Global sourcing experience required.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with executive leadership.
  • Experience with project management scheduling and tracking systems.

Do you have these preferred qualifications?

 

  • Operations/Manufacturing experience
  • Metal Based commodity experience
  • Mechanical Knowledge in fabrication, machining, or engineering. 
  • Proven experience building team cultures and developing others. 

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:

 

  • Working knowledge of supply chain cost analysis and target costing techniques.
  • Possesses financial acumen, i.e., Total Cost of Ownership, Working Capital, and Payback Analysis.
  • Working familiarity with Lean Manufacturing Principles, Statistical Process Control methodology, and VAVE.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Strong project and relationship management, interpersonal, and team building skills.
  • Clear understanding of potential environmental issues concerning materials and services.
  • Working familiarity with spreadsheet analysis software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift parts, materials, and/or product weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to transport self for interplant and supplier visits.
  • Ability to occasionally travel overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally; may involve extended overseas trips.
