Job Summary

We are currently looking for a Senior Model Maker - Upholster / Pattern Maker to join our team in Holland, MI.   

  

As a Senior Model Maker - Upholster / Pattern Maker, you will: 

Turn design ideas into real, usable patterns for upholstery with materials like woven or base fabric, leather and faux leather. Manage patterns from early prototypes through to production, and support the plant teams as they develop them further. One program may include up to 30 different patterns. Utilize working knowledge of CAD software to create and modify detailed 2D and 3D part and assembly drawings from engineer and technician sketches, plans, and instructions. Help out with other hands-on projects, including some work with wood.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Applies machine operating skills and knowledge of materials and processes to fabricate appearance models, functional prototypes of new concepts, and prototype dies or fixtures.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and sketches to determine manufacturing processes, tooling, and CNC programming requirements.
  • Plan and develop patterns while also managing early prototypes through to production. 
  • Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software for new and revised parts, including tool path generation and tool selection.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to establish a prototype based on their vision for production and material patterns. 
  • Develop and maintain tooling standards and documentation for CNC machining processes.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions with/without accommodation.
  • Uses office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
  • Performs other duties within scope as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of upholstry / pattern making experience or model shop experience
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of projects in Model Shop
  • Ability to frequently lift material and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds (assistance given with heavier objects)
  • Must be able to commute daily to our Holland Headquarters
  • Military Equivalency at www.mynextmove.org/vets/find/military
  • Applicants must be able to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance.
  • Applicants must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified journeyman Model Maker, Tool and Die Maker, Sheet Metal Worker, Patternmaker, or equivalent
  • Certification or vocational training
  • Experience upholstering furniture and seating
  • Ability to develop and modify patterns
  • Has sewing skills
  • Exhibits strong time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Experience with software tools like Solidworks and Exactflat
  • Ability to read blueprints to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT)
  • Willing to learn and expand skills outside of Upholstry with things like wood/metal/CNC
