Job Overview

The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing test plans to evaluate products, assemblies, and materials against performance, durability, and BIFMA standards. This role conducts hands-on testing, monitors product wear and mechanical performance, identifies potential failure risks, and provides pass/fail recommendations based on established acceptance criteria. Working closely with engineers and technicians, the Test Engineer leads problem-solving efforts, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports product validation through Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) processes. The position also designs and coordinates test equipment, provides daily direction to technicians, and trains team members on proper testing methods and procedures. This opportunity is open to candidates ranging from early-career professionals to experienced testing engineers. Position level and compensation will be aligned to the selected candidate's skills, experience, and overall qualifications.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage complex quality improvement projects, utilizing Lean Six Sigma and other methodologies.
• Develop and implement quality management systems (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO and other relevant standards.
• Lead tours of the test lab for customers and other stakeholders, explaining testing methods, standards, and provide answers to questions.
• Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of quality issues.
• Develop and implement supplier quality programs to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components.
• Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to other departments on quality-related matters.
• Mentor and develop junior quality engineers or technicians, providing guidance and feedback to enhance their skills.
• Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in quality management.
• Must be able to perform all essential job functions with/without accommodation.
• Uses office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
• Performs other duties within scope as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Design, or Engineering Technology or similar relevant field of study
• Education Equivalency: Associate's Degree plus 2 years additional related experience OR 4 years additional related experience if no post-secondary education
• Work Experience: 2+ years experience within a testing environment with Bachelor’s Degree OR 3 years experience with Master’s Degree
• Must be able to work onsite full-time in our Test Lab located in Holland, MI. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.,

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with product and durability testing in a manufacturing environment
• Experience testing furniture products and components
• Knowledge of BIFMA and UL standards
• Ability to interpret test standards, specifications, and acceptance criteria
• Experience developing and executing product test plans
• Knowledge of Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) processes
• Experience with electrical and mechanical test equipment
• Proficiency using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
• Experience with test reporting, data analysis, and documentation
• Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
• Experience designing, building, or modifying test fixtures and equipment
• Programming or automation experience for test equipment and data collection
• Understanding of product reliability and quality assurance principles
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing priorities
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
