Journeyman Electrician - 3rd Shift (4X10) - Wood Plant - Big Rapids, MI

Job Overview

 

We are currently looking for a 3rd Shift Electrician to join our team in Big Rapids, MI.

 

As an Electrician, you will:  Performs routine and emergency electrical maintenance on all machines and equipment, diagnoses source of problems or potential problems, and maintains or repairs as needed.

 

Regular hours:    Tuesday to Friday (4x10) 7 pm (Monday night) to 6 am (Friday morning)

Overtime:            Mondays (Sunday night) 9 pm to 6 am as mandated

Training Shift:    1st Shift for approximately 4-6 weeks or longer if necessary.  The Shift Premium will still apply while training on 1st Shift.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses situation or problem, plans and schedules course of action necessary to prevent breakdown, makes repairs or improvements to machines/equipment. Disassembles, adjusts, reworks, rebuilds, or replaces electrical components of machines/equipment to achieve desired results.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines and electrical equipment to keep machines and equipment in good working order.  Bends and runs conduit throughout plant(s), both indoors and outdoors.
  • Operates personal computer terminal (PC), via keyboard/mouse, to create work requests and work orders, obtain needed parts in-house or order them through tool crib, and obtain historical work order information.
  • Test runs machine/equipment to determine effectiveness and completeness of electrical service or repairs.
  • Maintains user knowledge of all maintenance equipment and test instruments, including operating power hand tools, non-power hand tools, precision measuring tools, and various pieces of electrical test equipment.
  • Assists with designing and building electrical control panels.
  • Understands and operates Programmable Language Controlled (PLC) programs to troubleshoot same and provide related documentation.
  • Provides project leadership on major installation or revisions of machines and equipment at various Haworth facilities.
  • Assists other maintenance members; serves as resource to engineering and management.
  • Contacts suppliers on information, performance issues, service issues, and warranty claims.
  • Follows all safety requirements and communicates any safety concerns.
  • Operates maintenance equipment, including company vehicles, material handling equipment, and manlifts to heights of 60 feet.
  • Climbs ladders or machinery, stoops, crouches, twists, kneels, crawls, and walks to access repair area while carrying or moving tools and repair parts, including overhead and floor-to-waist lifting of materials weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment, department, plant, and worksite.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skills in related fields.
  • Performs all duties as assigned to meets daily schedule requirements; may require daily and/or weekend overtime.
  • Travels away from corporate offices; may include overnight travel.
     

Do you meet these qualifications?

EDUCATION

  • High school education or equivalent (equivalent is defined as equivalent degree OR job-specific work experience OR combination of education and job-specific work experience; three years job-specific work experience equals one year of formal education).
  • Certificate of completion of four-year apprentice program or equivalent (equivalent is six years electrician experience).
  • State of Michigan license for electrical work required.
  • Must have own tool box and electrical hand tools required by craft.
  • Must obtain and maintain valid powered industrial truck operator permit and State of Michigan driver’s license.

 

WORK REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

  • Programmable controller experience preferred.
  • Four years related work experience preferred.
  • Experience with PLCs and ladder logic preferred.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, ash, oil, grease, chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, and flying debris.

 

Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship required.

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:

  • PC and keyboard/mouse skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to travel overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally.
