Team Member - 1st Shift, Bruce MS

Position Purpose

This is entry level position with purpose of assimilating new members in Haworth manufacturing culture and prepare them for advancement to other production positions.  Members in this position will be expected to develop and display knowledge, skills, and willingness to learn and perform variety of manufacturing tasks (assembly, packing, testing, cleaning and other operations), flex workstation to accommodate business needs,  produce sustained quality and timely results, maintain ongoing positive and collaborative behaviors, and reliably work all scheduled hours.

Job Responsibilities

  • Learns to assemble a variety of general assembly components per process sequence in accordance with approved methods, blueprints and bills of of-materials, using work center tools, adhesives and fixtures, to meet schedule requirements and ensuring quality product is produced.  
  • Learns to prepare and pack all types of Haworth product.  Packages all components per Haworth packaging standards; may use wrapper and conveyors.  Ensures proper instructions and labels are used.  
  • Learns to use basic measuring instruments to ensure parts meet engineering specifications.
  • Learns to operate computers to obtain information and perform various tasks.
  • May learn to operate various machines, including loading and unloading of material, to maintain department and plant production requirements.
  • Assists with loading and unloading product from paint lines, trailers, or warehouse racks, per production/distribution center requirements, to ensure meeting of production goals.  May select proper rack, select hang pattern, and load and remove product from line.
  • Inspects incoming component parts and previous station's assembly work per Haworth quality standards to ensure proper fit and function of all components; corrects or replaces unacceptable parts as necessary.  Ensures paint/product/material has no flaws and is correct color.
  • Performs functional and visual inspection of all completed product, ensuring Haworth quality and assembly specifications are met.  Documents quality inspections and audits on designated forms such as log books and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.  If problems are identified, troubleshoots and corrects problems.
  • Performs daily maintenance duties, including work center and/or equipment preventative maintenance, to ensure and maintain clean, safe, and well-kept work environment and to continuously improve process uptime
  • Shares appropriate information with supervisor, material handler, and/or maintenance personnel of any mechanical problems and/or shortages that would interfere with production.
  • Performs all duties as assigned to ensure department and plant meet daily and weekly production requirements.
  • Performs and cross trains on other job functions as directed; may rotate through various tasks in work area.
  • Participates in team meetings and contributes towards continuous improvement efforts.
  • Follows all safety requirements and communicates any safety concerns
  • Maintains housekeeping standards by vacuuming, sweeping, and picking up in work area to prevent safety hazards and defective products.
  • Moves and manipulates products/material weighing between 50 and 100 pounds (assistance necessary with larger, heavier units), involving frequent standing, twisting, lifting, turning, and bending.  Continuously pulls, pushes, and tugs materials, equivalent to lifting/moving parts weighing from 10 to 24 pounds.
  • Flexes work schedule as business demands; may work more than eight hours per day and/or forty hours per week, including weekends and/or holidays.

Education & Experience

Education
Eighth grade education or equivalent preferred.

 

Work Experience
Computer experience preferred.
Depending on plant and work center required training ranges from one week to 90 days.


NOTE:  It is expected that Team Members will take approximately one year to show proficiency in tasks and be fully assimilated into Haworth culture to be eligible to be promoted to higher level (if position is available).
