Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Product Engineer to join our team Product Development team in Holland, working on case goods and table products. We are open to filling this role with a jr or sr level product engineer. 

 

As a Product Engineer you will:

 

Design and document new products and product line enhancements. Determine material, labor, and overhead costs. Work with other engineers to determine best manufacturing processes for existing and new products and to ensure all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met by applying engineering principles under minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops solutions for new products, enhancements, and existing product lines through selection of materials, form, fit, function, design failure mode effect analysis and design reliability testing.  Determines best practices and processes to minimize labor, material, and overhead costs, and assure manufacturability to increase market share and profitability.
  • Participates in analysis of competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance, and packaging to determine competitiveness of product offerings.
  • Develops engineering detail and documentation (including drawings, Engineering Change Orders [ECOs] and Requests for Expenditure [RFEs]) to support tooling quotations, manufacturing processes, and cost analysis for final product implementation to assure all required Haworth Quality System documentation is in place and current.
  • Coordinates testing and analysis of materials, processes, and prototypes to be used for engineering performance and reliability testing; works with Quality Assurance to ensure all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met.
  • Provides technical direction to various Haworth departments, utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) base models, via personal computer (PC) and keyboard/mouse, to ensure form, fit, and function of product design.
  • Develops products or product enhancements; researches and periodically tests and validates product, using applicable global requirements, to ensure affect of design meets within global standards for regulatory compliance.
  • Minimally travels overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally.
     

Do you have these required qualifications?

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent job-specific work experience
  • If no degree, 2 years of engineering experience for every year of education not completed towards a degree
  • Minimum of 18 months engineering experience
  • Sr Engineer requires 3 or more years of engineering experience
  • Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance.

Do you have these preferred qualifications?

  • Masters Degree
  • Product specific engineering experience
  • Experience in 3D CAD
  • General knowledge of ERP systems and/or bills of material
  • SAP experience 
  • Experience in the office furniture, automotive or other consumer product industries.

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to creatively design, analyze, and document product designs on multiple projects.
  • Design, development, and project management skills.
  • Ability for innovative technical accomplishments, as demonstrated through prior design drawings, patent awards, technical publications, and market success.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of CAD (design) systems and analysis procedures; PC and keyboard/mouse skills required.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to ensure products and materials produced meet functional requirements over life of product.
  • Ability to work in development-oriented team environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable of applicable global standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) and Canadian Government Test Standard (CGSB).
  • Ability to occasionally travel overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally.
