Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Research Specialist to join our team in Holland, MI. This position is hybrid. 

As a Research Specialist you will:

Focus on secondary research that supports corporately agreed upon research objectives and topics related to workplace. Utilize basic understanding of workplace issues to create insights for topics of research.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, orchestrates, and writes annual research reports, using secondary research methods to support Haworth’s research strategy.
  • Conducts, reports, and analyzes research data to address specific topics related to workplace to support Haworth’s vision as industry knowledge leader.
  • “Owns” continuous development of topics related to organizational performance, human performance, and facilities performance.  Data will be extracted from variety of Subject Matter Experts to create unique point-of-view to share with clients, dealers, partners, and members.
  • Composes, conducts, distributes, and analyzes surveys to identify and quantify specific workplace research goals, preferences, and concerns.
  • Validates research through learning labs and vignette studies, creating data points for go-to-market space concepts and product ideas.
  • Collects quantitative data from studies and surveys with external influencers to create knowledge content to share with clients.
  • Performs practical and quick turn-a-round studies (i.e. passive way-finding, visual cues) to provide research results to Product Development and Design.
  • Provides unique point-of-view on traditional topics (i.e. ergonomics, daylight & views, privacy/distraction) to provide needed criteria for product design.
  • Demonstrates knowledge through support of client visits/engagements, presentations, trade shows, white papers, case studies, and educational forums to build brand awareness.
  • Responds to clients, sales, and dealers on specific requests for workplace knowledge to provide research to requestors and differentiate Haworth from competition.
  • Develops and supports relationships with external consultants, professional organizations, and academia to share and enhance knowledge of leading practices.
  • Practices continuous learning by reading workplace knowledge books/papers and attending workplace knowledge seminars and workshops to demonstrate workplace knowledge leadership.
  • Utilizes personal computer (PC) and keyboard/mouse while performing functions of position.  Travels overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally.

Do you have these required qualifications?


  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior, environmental psychology, social/neuroscience, business, human resources, marketing, workplace strategy, architecture, interior design or equivalent area of study.
  • 5 years experience in research, organizational design, higher education teaching, business, marketing, workplace consulting, architecture, or commercial interiors that includes all aspects of workplace environment.
  • Ability to work in Holland, MI onsite.
  • Ability to work in the United States without visa or sponsorship assistance.

Do you have these preferred qualifications?

  • Master's degree
  • Familiarity with design thinking
  • Experience in Human Performance research, especially relating to the corporate workforce
  • Inferring patterns of behaviors within specific population in context to work environments
  • Create and validate theories from the data collected to explore, explain, evaluate, and predict social patterns and trends involving human behavior, human performance, and wellbeing
  • Familiar with design thinking and appreciation for design
  •  A key contribution of a social scientist with number and data skills is that they not only use the data, but they can question data intelligently
  •  Brings understanding into the physical, social, and cultural development of humans as well as the links between human activity and the environment.
