Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Holland, MI

Short Description

We are currently seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Holland, MI.

 

This position assures highest quality, least costly manufacturing processes.  Coordinates and leads teams to design, develop, install and document new and/or existing processes, equipment, and tooling.  Ensures performance (business, profit, and manufacturing) to specification.  Conducts cost reduction activities to determine material, labor, and overhead costs.  Investigates and analyzes competitive products to determine manufacturing processes and costs associated.  Provides technical direction to other staff members and interfaces at all organizational levels.

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently designs, develops, and researches new processes and tooling or improvements to existing processes or tooling, utilizing engineering principles, complying with corporate policies on health, safety, and environmental equipment in regards to codes, standards, and regulations.  Determines best practices and processes to minimize labor, material, and overhead costs and assure manufacturability to increase market share and profitability.
  • Assumes project leadership for one or more complex manufacturing engineering projects, ensuring project implementation.  Develops and recommends manpower needs, schedules, and completion date of projects assigned with responsibility for due dates, product cost, and capital expenditure control.
  • Complete “make versus buy” feasibility studies and manufacturing cost analysis; electronically transmits data for completion of financial analysis to assure best use of materials and methods in balancing manufacturing and future quality costs.  Works with Finance to determine labor, material, and overhead costs to justify equipment and process improvements.
  • Develops engineering detail and documentation (including drawings, Engineering Change Orders, Requests for Expenditure and International Organization of Standardization) to support tooling quotations, manufacturing processes, and cost analysis to assure all required Haworth Quality System documentation is in place and current.
  • Utilizes statistical techniques, tolerance analysis, process potential studies, and other engineering techniques to assure new tooling and equipment meet specifications before quality acceptance.
  • Troubleshoots process and production issues on daily basis to determine processing issues
  • and develop/implement best manufacturing solutions.  Assists with material, print, equipment, and process issues to ensure customer orders are correct and on time.
  • Analyzes competitive products by evaluating competitor’s materials, manufacturing processes, product performance, and packaging, to determine manufacturing methods and areas of opportunity.
  • Works with Maintenance department members, line leaders, operators, and quality personnel to understand and fix issues with equipment, processes or materials (internal and external) supplied to process.
  • Develops, maintains, and implements quality/reliability plans for major projects.  Monitors test progress to assure compliance to specified parameters.
  • Participates in and executes quality deliverables for New Product Introduction budgets, Failure Mode Effective Analysis design reviews, gauging, Quality Function Deployment, and reliability goals to ensure all possible design and manufacturability issues are addressed to assure quality product.
  • Develops methods, labor standards, and routings for all manufacturing processes.  Enters process information (methods, standards, and routings) into Advanced Manufacturing Accounting Production System database; conducts regular audits of standards to assure accuracy.
  • Reviews equipment and/or processes electrical designs to assure compliance to specifications and proper use of Haworth standardized components.
  • Uses knowledge of control systems to recommend and implement changes to process logic.
  • Utilizes Computer Aided Design software to develop and design fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
  • Maintains up-to-date, state-of-the-art knowledge in areas of manufacturing engineering methods and processes to ensure safest, most efficient production environment possible.
  • Champions, supports, and facilitates cultural change initiatives through training and directing members to ensure Haworth values, Haworth Manufacturing System principles, and best practices are applied.

Education & Experience

Education and Work Experience 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, or equivalent. 

  • Six years engineering experience. 

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

OR 

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, or equivalent. 

  • Four years engineering experience. 

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
